FAQ’s

  1. Do I need a piano?
No, it needn’t be a Steinway grand (wouldn’t that be nice!); many students begin with a keyboard to start out then later invest in a piano.
  2. What age should my child start lessons?
It varies with maturity and attention span.  I believe, having a solid year of school prior to lessons is a plus. Ideal starting age in my opionion is  2nd grade and beyond; but some kids are raring to go at 5 years old; others start in their teens. I started at 10. One of my best adults, Shirley Gurley,  started in her 70’s & was great!
  3. Do you have recitals?
Yes! Although, they may be of the virtual kind until about 2021. They are typically in May.   Additionally, I invite my in-person students to enroll  in a wonderful annual Piano Festival, held in March, where they are rated by other fellow piano teachers.
  4. How much per lesson?
Tuition is paid the first of each month in order to hold your time slot.  I try my best to be flexible, as all schedules are hectic at times.

I like to balance my teaching approach with a fun mix of fundamentals (classics), theory AND popular music.  In addition to their regular curriculum, my students can choose their favorite pop tunes:  Piano Man, Greatest Showman On Earth songs, A Whole New World, Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, The Entertainer (Scott Joplin) Harry Potter, Star Wars, and more….

In addition to teaching I have “played out” professionally at the top venues in Pittsburgh. My bio includes:

  • Writing “The Hokey Pierogi” for the Pittsburgh Pirates, played at all PNC Park home games during the 6th inning Pierogi races!
  • Opening for Yanni at Star Lake Amphitheatre
  • 4 recordings; music featured on National Public Radio
  • Playing piano for Christina Aguilera on her 1st studio session.
